MALAYSIA REAFFIRMS UNWAVERING SUPPORT FOR PALESTINE

In solidarity with the State of Palestine and the overwhelming majority of the international community supporting the effort to realise the two-State solution and recognition of the State of Palestine, Malaysia voted in favour of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution on Endorsement of the New York Declaration on 12 September 2025. The Resolution was adopted with 142 votes.

This collective commitment and acceptance of the two-State solution and recognition of the State of Palestine, being a key step forward to end Israel’s colonisation and atrocities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, was a crucial point in Malaysia’s decision to go along with the resolution.

Malaysia stated its position clearly after the vote that the realisation of the two-State solution and recognition of the State of Palestine should not be subject to any preconditions, and the State of Palestine should be based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its Capital. Malaysia emphasised that the Palestinian Statehood, including its sovereignty, territorial integrity and the right of return of millions of Palestinian refugees, all of which are guaranteed under international law, must therefore be part of the solution to the Question of Palestine.

Malaysia called for the shortcomings and limitations in the New York Declaration to be addressed fully through concrete measures and a time-bound action plan that protect and preserve the Palestinians’ fundamental freedom and their right to statehood; respect the will and aspirations of the Palestinian people; provide security guarantees for Palestine, and hold the Zionist Israel regime accountable for its persistent violations of international law, for the crimes of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Malaysia further emphasised that the Declaration should pave the way for an immediate end to the Zionist Israel’s war against Gaza, its atrocities, humanitarian catastrophe in the Palestinian Territory, and for achieving lasting peace in the Middle-East.
