In the spirit of independence as declared by Tunku Abdul Rahman in 1957 and to commemorate the 62nd Anniversary of Hari Merdeka, all HBS, Defence personnel, students and families gathered at Dewan Merdeka on 30 August 2019 to celebrate the annual Ambang Merdeka event.
The programme started with the flag raising ceremony followed with the singing of the national anthem Negaraku. This year’s programme was special as the High Commission collaborated with the PERWAKILAN ladies in organising fun and creative activities. Among the highlights were a short video on Merdeka, recitation of sajak by Defence Adviser Col. Nahar, and various activities for the children such as colouring contest, essay writings, short quote of the day and public speaking.
At the end of the programme, patriotic songs such as Tanggal 31, Jalur Gemilang and Keranamu Malaysia were sung by the attendees. The reading of Rukun Negara was led by Adik Ikmal Iszam.
Ambang Merdeka is a positive event that encourages spirit of patriotism and love of our nation. It also encourages creative thinking and confidence building particularly among the young children.
