The ASEAN-Australia Special Summit was held on 17 and 18 March 2018 in Sydney, Australia. It was the first time Australia hosted a summit with ASEAN leaders in Australia. The Malaysian delegation was led by YAB Prime Minister Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Abdul Razak.
The Summit adopted the Sydney Declaration to reaffirm the shared commitment for cooperation in trade, regional peace and security as well as peaceful resolution of disputes. An MoU on Cooperation to Counter International Terrorism was also signed to further encourage intelligence sharing, capacity building, technical assistance and best practices between ASEAN and Australia. The Special Summit provided a positive momentum in moving forward the ASEAN-Australia Strategic Partnership.
