In commemorating the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN, the ASEAN Committee in Canberra (ACC) hosted the ASEAN Day Reception on 13 August 2019 at Albert Hall, Canberra.
The memorable event was graced by His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia and Her Excellency Mrs. Linda Hurley. Around 300 guests comprising Members of Parliament, government officials, Heads of Mission and members of the diplomatic corps and members of the business community attended the reception.
During the reception, Governor General Hurley exchanged toasts with Ambassador Tha Aung Nyun of Myanmar, who was the current Chairman of the ACC. In their remarks, both sides highlighted the significance of ASEAN and the strong relations between ASEAN and Australia. Mr. and Mrs Hurley were treated to traditional ASEAN delicacies. Malaysia served nasi lemak and various traditional kuih-muih such as kuih bahulu, kole kacang and ondeh-ondeh.
