ASEAN VILLAGE 2017

On 18 February 2017, the High Commission of Malaysia in Canberra participated in the ASEAN Village, organised by the ASEAN Canberra Committee (ACC). The ASEAN Village was held in conjunction with the National Multicultural Festival (NMF) Canberra, organized by the ACT Government from 17-19 February 2017. The NMF is an annual event organised by the ACT Government and this year marks the Festival’s 21st anniversary

 

Under the Chairmanship of the High Commission of Brunei Darussalam, all 10 ASEAN Missions in Canberra participated for the first time in the NMF as a group with various activities organized by the ASEAN Missions such as selling food, display of handicraft, photo booth, distribution of brochures and cultural performances by ASEAN Member Countries. The ASEAN Village was officially launched by the Minister for Multicultural Affairs of the ACT Government, Ms. Rachel Stephen Smith.

 

The High Commission’s participation in the festival was also in conjunction of the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of ASEAN and the 60th Anniversary of the Malaysia-Australia Diplomatic Relations. The High Commission, in collaboration with the Malaysian Ladies Association (PERWAKILAN Canberra) and the Association of Malaysian Muslim Families (AMMF) Incorporated had sold famous Malaysian cuisines and delicacies in Australia including roti canai and chicken satay. This is the fourth time that the High Commission had participated in the National Multicultural Festival Canberra since 2014.
