YB Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, led the delegation of the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities for an economic mission to Australia from 24 July to 2 August 2011. The delegation comprised of senior officials from the Ministry's agencies involved in the nation's major commodities include rubber, timber and palm oil. Few MPs also joined the mission which objectives were to strengthen the bilateral cooperation on the market of the commodities to Australia, to discuss ranging issues concerning palm oil, rubber and timber and to deliver Malaysia's strong position on the proposed Australian Bill on Food Standards Amendment (Truth in Labelling-Palm Oil) Bill 2010.
During the visit, the delegation had undertaken numerous meetings with state ministers and members of parliament from Victoria, New South Wales and also ACT. While in Canberra members of the delegation had their time to discuss with the sponsor of the Bill and paid the courtesy call on the Australian Federal Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestries.
Beside the meetings, the official visit encompassed other programs which include seminars on palm oil and timber industries and visits to training institute.
