On 20 November 2019, the High Commission of Malaysia welcomed two students studying International Relations from Australian National University (ANU), as part of the Girls Run the World program.
Girls Run the World, is an ACT based initiative designed to inspire and empower young women to explore new leadership frontiers and broaden relationships with the diplomatic community. The event was open to women aged 18-22 years to have a glimpse of the workings of a diplomatic mission in Canberra. This is the second time that the High Commission of Malaysia had participated in the program.
For this year’s programme, Miss Ayah Suhaib, a first year student of Bachelor of International Relations and Arts (majoring in Sociology and English), and Miss Kate Keir, a graduate of Bachelor of International Security Studies from ANU spent their day at the High Commission to learn more of the High Commmission’s function as well as to do some activities related to the objective of the Girls Run the World Programme.
At the start of the session, the girls had the opportunity to meet High Commissioner Dato’ Sudha who shared her thoughts on current developments in the world as well as her experiences and challenges in her career as a woman diplomat. They also met with key officials such as Defence Adviser and Third Secretary and were briefed on their role and responsibilities.
The girls were then given the opportunity to immerse and engage in real-time practical activities and research on Malaysia’s foreign policy and tourism promotions. To enhance their experience of the Malaysian hospitality, they were treated to Malaysian food for lunch, which the girls absolutely enjoyed.
