The annual Malaysian Festival was held on 21-22 September 2019 at Tumbalong Park, Sydney, Australia. The Malaysian Festival, a non-profit event organised by Malaysian students, is dedicated to sharing the wonders and joys of Malaysian culture and cuisine. Started in 1990, as a food bazaar, it has grown into a celebration of all things Malaysian, and attended by more than 38,000 visitors annually. High Commissioner Dato’ Sudha Devi officiated the event together with Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore. Also officiating the event was Ustaz Sulaiman Sulong, Deputy Chairman, Tourism, Culture and Information Technology, State of Terengganu. Tourism Terengganu was the main sponsor of this year’s Malaysia Festival.
This year’s special guest was Ms. Larissa Ping, Miss World Malaysia 2018 who flew all the way from Malaysia and together with her mother and colleagues, performed traditional Sarawakian dance, Warisan Telang Usan. Besides that, several other traditional performance such as silat, Indian dance, and Wushu were showcased to the crowd.
The two-day programme also showcased Malaysian delicacies such as satay, nasi lemak, kuih-muih and also durian.Several Malaysian entrepreneurs also took the opportunity to promote Malaysian snacks and food products as part of their marketing initiative.
