On Friday 17th July 2015, a Memorial Service of one-year anniversary of the downing of flight MH17 was held by the Australian Government at the Parliament House. The Memorial Service was held in remembrance of 38 Australians (including those who resided in Australia) who were involved in the crash in Ukraine. Around 700 guests including families, Australian Officials and Diplomatic Corps were invited and present at the ceremony. Malaysia was represented by TYT Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad, High Commissioner and Mr. Khairul Hezry Arifin, Second Secretary. Ahead of the Memorial Ceremony, the Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott unveiled a plaque with the names of the victims in a garden of the Parliament House. The event later continued with the National Memorial Ceremony and a Reception at the Great Hall of the Parliament.
