WORKING VISIT BY YB DATO’ SAIFUDDIN ABDULLAH, MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS TO AUSTRALIA, 29 NOVEMBER – 1 DECEMBER 2019

YB Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs made a Working Visit to Australia to attend the Second Malaysia-Australia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM), held in Sydney on 29 November 2019.

The Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was hosted by Senator the Hon. Marise Payne, Minister for Foreign Affairs and co-chaired by YB Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah. Both sides reviewed progress under the 2015 Australia-Malaysia Joint Declaration of Strategic Partnership and various pertinent issues of bilateral relations and current regional and global developments. A press conference was held after the conclusion of the meeting, during which Australia took the opportunity to announce Malaysia as its 2020 focus country for Australia’s flagship public diplomacy programme “AustraliaNow”. Both Foreign Ministers also signed the Film Co-Production Agreement.

Apart from the FMM, YB Dato’ Saifuddin also attended and participated in a roundtable discussion at the Lowy Institute where he expressed and shared his views on current developments in Malaysia as well as issues of international relations. He also had an engagement session with Malaysian diaspora and students in Sydney.

YB Foreign Minister then travelled to Melbourne on 30 November 2019, where he had engagements with Malaysian community, as well as with Mr. Chin Tan, Commissioner for Race Discrimination, Australia Human Rights Commission and Councilor Philip Le Liu, Chairperson for the International Engagement portfolio, City of Melbourne.
