ASEAN SEMINAR 2016

The ASEAN Consular Corps in Western Australia had organised a special programme called ASEAN Seminar 2016 on 2 October 2016 whereby 60 students from nine ASEAN Member States participated in it. Malaysia played host to the Seminar where the event was graced by the presence of the Consuls-General of Indonesia, Malaysia and Viet Nam.
Seven ASEAN students chose to deliberate on the topic of AICHR : Prospects and Challenges. The Seminar was particularly special owing to the fact that the students were given the space to lead the process with very minimal intervention from the bureaucrats in line with the spirit of ‘’People-Oriented, People-Centred’’ ASEAN. The discussions were centred around the questions of AICHR’s effectiveness, promotion and protection role of the regional body as well as challenges that AICHR has to face in discharging its roles.
