Meeting to discuss the proposal of Arab Human Rights Tribunal
Undersecretary for Regional and GCC Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Hamad bin Ahmed Abdulaziz Al Amer, will chair the first meeting to discuss the proposal of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to establish an Arab Human Rights Tribunal. The meeting will convene here today at the Foreign Ministry’s General Court. The meeting will include members from the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry, Social Development Ministry, Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission and the Constitutional Court. The proposal to establish a special Arab Tribunal charged with human rights issued was presented by HM the King in November, 2011 during a ceremony in which he received the final report of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI).
German Delegation arrives in Manama.
The German Bundestag’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU) parties’ delegation arrived in Bahrain on an official visit from June 8 to 11. The German delegation is set to meet Representatives Council Speaker Khalifa Al Dhahrani, Shura Council First Deputy Chairman Jamal Mohammed Fakhro and members from both councils. They will be received by mainly Deputy Head of the Services Committee, member of the Bahraini-German Friendship Committee and Head of the Mission of Honour MP Dr. Jamal Mohammed Saleh. The delegation will also meet senior officials in Bahrain.
III. Economic, Trade, Business:
Industry Minister receives Baytik CEO.
Minister of Industry and Commerce D. Hassan Fakhro received Baytik Industrial Investments CEO, Nader Khalil Almoayyed, who unveiled present and future projects. Dr. Fakhro stressed the positive impact of joint cooperation between the public and private sectors on national economic growth. He also underscored the pivotal role of the private sector in promoting national industrial and economic development, reaffirming the Government’s resolve to continue supporting positive private sector initiatives, Bahraini and foreign investors.
CEMENA achieves over $46m revenues in 2011.
CEMENA Holding Company, a Bahrain-based building Material company focusing on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) established in 2008 by Bahrain-based Gulf Finance House (GFH) and remained a major shareholder in the company, held its Annual General Meeting. The AGM focused on CEMENA’s profitability, returns and plans to diversify its business into becoming one of the leading building materials companies in the region, as part of new strategy.
IV. Social, Culture, Tourism:
Ministers of Culture and Works follow up the developments of establishing the National Theatre.
Minister of Culture Shaikha Mai Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa met with the Minister of Works Essam Khalaf to review the latest developments of the latest planned project of the construction of the National Theatre, one of the most important projects to reinforce the cultural infrastructure. The working team is from the Ministry of Works, the consulting company, and the company assigned to implement the interior designs of the National Theatre. The meeting was for following up the course of work and the construction steps, to ensure that they are in line with the adopted plan to achieve the project which is located north of Bahrain National Museum. Shaikha Mai highlighted that the theatre is being constructed on 11,869 square meters, with total cost of BD19 million.
Bahrain to revamp academic programs.
Minister of Education, Dr. Majid Al Nuaimi, announced yesterday plans to restructure academic programs of some private universities as part of a Higher Education strategy being mapped out in co-operation with international expertise houses. The Higher Education Council has plans to focus on vocational and technical programs and re-evaluate performance of all universities and high institutes in the kingdom out of a keenness to improve higher education results. The minister said that the academic programmes that don't comply with international standards, including qualifications of teaching staff and required laboratories, will no longer be allowed to confer a Master's degree, but only a bachelor's degree instead. Such programmes may also be stopped once and for all.
