Justice Ministry files Case against Amal seeking its dissolution.
The Justice and Islamic Affairs Ministry has yesterday lodged a case against Islamic Action Society (Amal) seeking its dissolution. According to the Political Associations Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs, such a move follows a series of flagrant and continuous violations under law 26 for 2005 on political associations. Added to this the association has failed to convene a general conference for more than four years, flouting rules and regulations and Its latest conference was declared null and void as it was held in a worshipping venue, the Bureau said. However, Bahrain’s Opposition (Al-Wefaq, Al Wahdawi, the National Assembly and Al Ekha societies) issued a statement condemning strongly any restrictions put against the political movement in the country, refusing such accusations directed by the Ministry against their sister “Amal”.
Cabinet holds weekly meeting.
Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa the Deputy Prime Minister chaired at Al-Gudaibiya Palace yesterday the cabinet regular weekly meeting. The ministerial council praised the speech of HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa before the World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia 2012 that was held recently in Thailand, in which HRH the PM represented his great visions to boost cooperation between the GCC Association and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Other matters presented and discussed during the meeting among them were unemployment which the cabinet said that it has dropped to 3.8 %, Parents responsibilities to assume their responsibilities and shield their children from being misled into illicit practices and the open doors for dialogue between all the social components.

In another context, and as part of the Cabinet weekly meeting, the ministerial council decided to set up a supreme committee that will be headed by Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa to follow up on the recommendations of the Human Rights Council. This came while discussing the kingdom's second Universal Periodic Review report in Geneva recently.The State Minister for Human Rights Affairs will take charge of following up on the implementation of those recommendations with concerned ministries and government bodies and provide the supreme committee with a first-hand update on that.
III. Economic, Trade, Business:
Alba Changes Management Structure and Appoints New Chief Officer.
In line with its efforts to strengthen organizational performance, Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) announced new changes to the company’s management structure and also the appointment of Basem Al Sharqi as the Chief Support Functions Officer (CSFO). Both changes took effect as of Sunday, June 3, 2012. The structural changes at the Executive Management include the appointment of former Chief Supply Chain Officer, Isa Al Ansari as the new Chief Operations Officer (COO) which is a position he held in acting- capacity since January 2011. Also Bahraini national Basem Al Sharqi is currently inducted into the Executive Management team and will be the new Chief Support Functions Officer. They will be reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, Laurent Schmitt.
IIB swings back into the black in Q1 of 2012.
Bahrain-based Islamic investment bank, International Investment Bank (IIB), has swung back into the black at end of the first quarter with reporting net income of $1.7 million at end of Q1 2012 compared with a net loss of $1.3 million in the same period last year. Total income for the first quarter was $3.2 million compared to $0.9 million a year earlier, mainly derived from investment banking fees and profit earned on funds placed with financial institutions. Total expenses reduced to $1.4 million in the period, a reflection of management’s stringent ongoing cost control policy.
IV. Social, Culture, Tourism:
The BDF achieves great success in World Music Festival in Italy.
Bahrain Defense Force’s participation in the World Music Festival in the city of Joli Nova in Italy has attained a great success, after presenting musical performances infused with the spirit of heritage and Bahraini Folklore starting on 30 of May till Monday 4th of June 2012. Meanwhile, there were 12 international countries participating in the festival, where the Kingdom of Bahrain was considered the only Arab country in the festival. During presenting its performance, the Bahraini Band met a great public appreciation in that Italian City where it claimed the admiration of everyone. The Italian press also showed a great admiration of the Bahraini musical band and reported that in its newspapers during the days of the festival.
