Foreign Minister KSA Al-Faisal: “The GCC union proposal is postponed until the next ministerial meeting in September.”
Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa took part yesterday in the 123th GCC ministerial meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The session approved Saudi Arabia’s suggestion to further discuss the union proposal until the next ministerial meeting, scheduled to be held in September. The move aims at enabling member states to table their feedback on the study, prior to submitting the ministerial report into the union proposal in the forthcoming session. In another context, the Arab Gulf states in a statement firmly rejected and condemned continuous Iranian interference in the GCC countries’ internal affairs, flagrantly violating their sovereignty and independence.

HRH the Premier commands to further enhance the Bahraini-Thai bilateral coordination and cooperation.
On the sidelines of his participation in the 21st World Economic Forum on East Asia, hosted by Thailand, HRH the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa attended yesterday a dinner banquet hosted by Mr. Surapong Tovichakchaikul, the Thai Foreign Minister in his honour. HRH Prime Minister called for the need to enhance bilateral coordination and cooperation in the coming period, especially in the trade and investment fields which, he said was reflected by the fruitful results of HRH the Thai PM’s recent visit to the kingdom where a number of memoranda of understanding were signed between the two sides.

Mr. Laurent Schmitt, Aluminium Bahrain Company (Alba) Chief Executive, while commenting on Alba’s participation in Aluminium China 2012 said that Asia is one of the most dynamic markets for the aluminium industry, and Alba remains keen on expanding the footprint of its product portfolio in the continent. He added that Alba Company is currently exporting more than 15 per cent of its products to Asia, and is confident to see additional growth with the opening of its sales office in Hong Kong. Aluminium China 2012 Expo is taking place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, Shanghai, China from June 6 – 8, 2012.
GAA named Top 10 Mideast training centre.
Bahrain-based Gulf Aviation Academy (GAA), a unit of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, has been recognised as a Top ten Middle East Iata Authorised Training Center (ATC) for 2012. The award, which was presented to GAA during the Iata Training Partner Congress that was recently held in Istanbul, is in recognition of the Academy’s outstanding contribution in developing human capital by reaching out to the next generation of leaders in the evolving air transport industry in the Mena region. Organised by the Iata Training and Development Institute (ITDI), the Training Partner Congress is designed to continue Iata’s engagement with its Authorized Training Centers (ATCs) worldwide.

Housing Minister: 35% of Al-Hidd City Housing Project completed.
H.E. Engineer Bassim bin Yagoub Al-Hammer, Housing Minister accentuated that the East Hidd Housing Project currently undergoes a phase of earthworks which reached 35% and pointed out that the Minister puts in maximum efforts to finalize earthworks as soon as possible and embark on construction work in order allocate the housing units to eligible citizens on timely fashion. The East Hidd Housing Project is a megaproject for the purpose of construction of 4500 to 5000 units as part of the Ministry's strategic five-year plan aimed at serving the waiting lists in Muharraq Governorate and accommodate more than 30,000 Bahraini citizens. The project shall be constructed on a space of 227 hectares of land.
