Public Prosecution holds Lecture on alleged torture and ill treatment.

 

The Public Prosecution held a lecture on alleged torture and ill treatment in light of Istanbul protocols. Moroccan Advisor Dr. Abdulsalam Bouhoush delivered the lecture in the presence of Public Prosecutor Dr. Ali bin Fadhl Al-Bounaian and other personnel. The Chief Prosecutor Nawaf Abdulla Hamza said that the initiative reflects the drive of the Public Prosecution to ensure procedures conform to the provisions of the international covenants on investigating torture allegations.

 

Bahrain to host the Union of Arab Courts and Constitutional Councils’ meetings.

 

Under the patronage of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Bahrain is set to host the meetings of the Union of Arab Courts and Constitutional Councils from March 17 to 20. Bahrain acceded to the union in December 2003, alongside twelve countries which currently constitute it. The Union of Arab Courts and Constitutional Councils aims to consolidate ties of brotherhood and friendship among its members, boost the concept of constitutional judiciary in the Arab World and promote monitoring of the constitutionality of laws in protecting rights and general freedoms.

Curtain falls on House of Glory festival.

 

The “House of Glory” Festival was opened to mark the 16th anniversary of the National Guard. The event aimed at cementing relations with all categories of Bahraini society and bolster community partnership. The festival featured a photo expo at the City Centre and a string of cultural contests, with cash prizes distributed to visitors. Military and Ardha shows were also staged at Prince Khalifa Park in Hidd, Muharraq.

HM the King wins the title of the Humanitarian Personality of the Year. 

 

HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has been given the title of Humanitarian Personality of the Year with absolute majority of votes in a recent poll conducted by the Kuwaiti daily newspaper called (Al-Sharq). Tens of thousands of personalities from the GCC and Arab world participated in voting and hailed the role of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in placing the Kingdom of Bahrain amongst economically, scientifically, touristic-ally and democratically advanced countries. The participants affirmed that HM the King was able to invest in Bahraini citizens and encouraged them to work so as to build and prosper in their motherland.

 

The Social Development holds a Press Conference on Elderly Card.

 

The Minister of Social Development Dr. Fatima Mohammed Al Bulooshi held a press conference in which she shed light on the procedures to be taken to issue the Elderly Card through which senior citizens enjoy a 50 per cent reduction of fees on a wide range of services. The Conference was held at the Ministry's premises in the Financial Harbor. The Minister extended thanks and appreciation to HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for endorsing Law No. 58 of 2009 on elderly people's rights, adding that article 9 of the same law stipulates the issuance of the Elderly Card slashing fees by at least 50%. She also extended thanks to HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa for issuing directives to issue the Elderly Card during the regular Cabinet meeting he chaired on 6 January 2013.
