ROADSHOW BY MALAYSIA INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC FINANCAL CENTRE (MIFC) TO BAHRAIN

The Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre (MIFC) is organizing a Roadshow in Bahrain from 13-15 October 2009. HRH Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Shah, Crown Prince of the State of Perak, Malaysia, in his capacity as the Financial Ambassador of MIFC initiative, will be leading a delegation of over 70 members from 45 key organizations in Malaysia. This initiative is taken to promote Malaysia as a major hub for international Islamic finance, which is in line with the objective of MIFC.

The Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre (MIFC) was launched in August 2006 to position Malaysia in the forefront of Islamic finance to strengthen the international linkages and capitalise the rapid development of the global Islamic finance industry. It is a collaborative effort by Malaysia’s financial and market regulators, including Central Bank of Malaysia (Bank Negara Malaysia), Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), Labuan Offshore Financial Services Authority (LOFSA) and Bursa Malaysia (Malaysia stock exchange) – together with industry participation from the banking, takaful (Islamic insurance) and capital market sectors in Malaysia.

One of the mandates of the MIFC is to strengthen the international linkages in the global Islamic financial system with leading financial centres such as Bahrain. The Roadshow is envisaged to pave the way for cross border collaboration between MIFC and stakeholders in Bahrain. It is part of a seven day Roadshow to the region.

Malaysia-Bahrain Business Forum

In conjunction with the Roadshow and in encouraging greater discourse between market players in Bahrain and Malaysia, a Malaysia-Bahrain Business Forum will be held on 15 October 2009 in Ritz-Carlton Bahrain, Hotel and Spa. A Bankers’ dialogue themed “Fostering Greater Financial Linkages” and an Investors’ dialogue themed “Cross-border Islamic capital market opportunities” will be organized during the business forum. The Crown Prince, HRH Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, will deliver a keynote address at the forum. Representatives from the Bahrain business community have been invited to attend the business forum which is also supported by the Bahrain Association of Banks.
