A clear blue sky made it possible for the ASEAN Embassies in Brasilia to enjoy the ASEAN Family Day 2010 on Saturday, 18 September 2010 at the compound of the Embassy of Malaysia.
Under the coordination of the Embassy of Malaysia the event aimed to enable the officers, and staff of the ASEAN resident Embassies in Brasilia to get to know each other and interact with one another in a relaxed atmosphere. The event commenced with the welcoming remarks by the Coordinator, Ambassador Sudha Devi followed by the opening remarks by the Dean of the ASEAN Ambassador, Ambassador Chakarin Chayabongse of Thailand.
There were three teams namely Red, headed by the Ambassadors of Malaysia and Vietnam, Blue by the Ambassador of Myanmar and Charge d’Affaires of the Philippines, and Yellow by Ambassador of Thailand and representative of the Embassy of Indonesia.
The race track was blaring with excitement. Teams were cheering their lungs out. It was a sight not to be missed. Among the games were sack running, candle burning, rings thrown over bottle necks, tug of war, memory game and bakkiak race for the adult’s category. Meanwhile the children played tug of war, walking with ball, bowling and egg running
Fiery Red triumphed in almost all the games as top scorer and in the ultimate determinant race, the tug of war where the battle was between Fiery Red and Sober Yellow the victory went to Fiery Red. The Winner for the 2010 ASEAN Sports Day went to Fiery Red, Second place to Sober Yellow and Third place to Peaceful Blue.
After the games, participants enjoyed a buffet lunch of dishes from ASEAN Embassies. Malaysia, for its part served the all time favourite- nasi lemak and kuih bakar for dessert.
