H.E. Dato’ Sudha Devi and Officers from the Embassy of Malaysia joined the celebration of the blossoming of the orchid Grammatophyllum speciosum, (the species is popularly known as tiger orchid) brought from Malaysia, at the National Orchids Center of IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) on 11 February 2011.
Under the careful care of Ms Lou Menezes, Head of the Nursery, the orchid has adapted well despite the lack of humidity and bloomed for the first time after nearly half a decade. There are over 2,000 types of orchids in the botanical garden of the Institute. Known as the biggest orchid in the world, the plant of three meters height has attracted the curiosity of Brazilians for its lush bloom and soft perfume of 400 flowers in 19 stalks.
H.E. Dato’ Sudha Devi was later interviewed by Cable TV Rural Channel on the occasion of her visit to the Botanical Garden of IBAMA.
ORQUÍDEA GIGANTE DA MALÁSIA FLORESCE EM BRASÍLIA
S.E. Dato' Sudha Devi e funcionários da Embaixada da Malásia se uniram à celebração da floração da orquídea Grammatophyllum speciosum, (a espécie é popularmente conhecida como Orquídea Tigre) trazida da Malásia, no Centro Nacional de Orquídeas do IBAMA (Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e Recursos Naturais Renováveis) em 11 de fevereiro de 2011.
Sob os cuidados da pesquisadora Lou Menezes, chefe do Orquidário, a orquídea adaptou-se bem apesar da falta de umidade e floresceu pela primeira vez depois de quase meia década. Existem mais de 2.000 tipos de orquídeas no Jardim Botânico do Instituto. Conhecida como a maior orquídea no mundo, a planta de três metros de altura atrai a curiosidade dos brasileiros pela sua exuberância e suave perfume de 400 flores em 19 hastes.
S.E. Dato’ Sudha Devi foi posteriormente entrevistada pela TV a cabo Canal Rural, por ocasião da sua visita ao Jardim Botânico do IBAMA.
