The Embassy of Malaysia with the support of PERWAKILAN Brasilia held the Malaysian Food Fair 2010 on 7 August 2010. Brazilians from all walks of life attended this culinary delight including the diplomatic corp and officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. An exhibition of Malaysian costumes like Baju Melayu, Kebaya Labuh, and Kadazan costumes, and traditional games such as congkak, sepak takraw and wau bulan were showcased to promote Malaysian culture and portray Malaysia as an exotic tourist destination.
The gastronomic flavours of 1Malaysia unveiled popular Malaysian appetisers such as karipap, popiah, masala vadai. The refreshing fragrance of spices escaped from simmering fish curry, vegetable dhalcha and egg sambal lured the visitors to indulge in Malaysian savouries. Kuih bingka labu, kek batik and bubur chacha were among the selection of desserts served at the event. The Fair was jazzed up with interludes of teh tarik and roti canai demonstrations by the Embassy’s in-house chefs which were greeted with much applause.
