PRESS RELEASE ON ROAD ACCIDENT INVOLVING MALAYSIANS IN CHIANG MAI PROVINCE, THAILAND



The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia wishes to inform that a joint mercy flight between Malaysia and Thailand will depart from Chiang Mai Airport to Subang Royal Malaysian Air Force Airbase to bring the remains of the 13 Malaysians who passed away in a tragic bus accident in Chiang Mai, Thailand on 20 December 2015.

The remains of the 13 victims and next-of-kin will be flown in 2 military transport aircraft belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force and Royal Thai Air Force around midnight of 22 December 2015. They will be accompanied by senior officials from the Government of Malaysia in Putrajaya and medical personnel.

 

The Governor of Chiang Mai, Mr. Pavin Chamniprasart and officials from the Malaysian Embassy will be sending off the remains and family members at the Chiang Mai airport.

 

Both aircraft are expected to arrive at the Subang Royal Malaysian Air Force Airbase in the early morning of 23 December 2015.

 

This joint effort exemplifies the strong bilateral cooperation between the Governments of Malaysia and Thailand. The Government of Malaysia wishes to thank the Government of Thailand for the support and assistance rendered to Malaysia in this difficult time.
