Ambassador Dato’ Sudha Devi joined members of the diplomatic corps, on 31 May 2012, in the tree-planting ceremony organized by Brazil's Câmara dos Deputados (House of Representatives) at the Parque Bosque dos Constituintes in Brasilia.
The ceremony was led by H.E. Marco Maia, Presidente da Câmara dos Deputados (House Speaker), the activity of which was held as a show of support for the United Nations (UN) Conference on Sustainable Development - Rio+20 from 20 to 22 June 2012.
During the event, Ambassadors of countries accredited to Brazil were each given a different variety of tree to plant. Dato´ Sudha Devi planted the Mutamba tree (Strychnos spinosa or Klapper apple) for Malaysia. The Mutamba tree is indigenous to tropical America, found throughout the Amazon rainforest and known for its medicinal properties.
