The Embassy of Malaysia in Berne welcomed the “Ekspedisi Merdeka 1Malaysia” (EM1M) as the motorbike expedition team arrived in Berne on 24 August 2010 from Italy. Switzerland was the fifteenth country out of a total of eighteen countries travelled by the team in this expedition. The team’s final destination will be London where they will arrive in time to celebrate Hari Merdeka on 31 August 2010.
The team comprising Captain Azizi Hashim (leader), Saiful Hazizan Hasam, Maxwell Ripin and Chua Chern Kwang was welcomed by Her Excellency Dato’ Ho May Yong and staff of the Embassy at the Chancery. This was followed by a short meeting between Dato’ Ho May Yong and the EM1M team where they shared their experience. Despite the fact that their journey was full of challenges, the team was determined to complete the expedition. The EM1M team shared their experiences in the countries that they travelled through. In their 320km journey to Berne from the point of entry into Switzerland, the team stopped many times to take photos of the beautiful Swiss landscape which fascinated them.
Later, the EM1M team was invited to an Iftar hosted by Dato’ Ho and attended by all members of the Embassy.
