The Hari Raya Open House for Malaysians residing in Switzerland hosted by H.E Dato’ Mohd Zulkephli Mohd Noor, Ambassador of Malaysia to Switzerland took place on 9 August 2014 at Rumah Malaysia (the Official Residence) in Muri, Bern. Despite the forecast of gloomy weather, it did not prevent about 160 Malaysians from all over Switzerland to attend the event. Thankfully the day turned out to be pleasant with warm sunshine and clear blue skies.
The event, which lasted for more than four hours, started with a moment of silence, followed by a recital of do’a as a mark of respect for the victims of the two tragic incidents befalling the nation recently, namely the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines aircraft MH370 and the downing of Malaysia Airlines aircraft MH17. The Ambassador later delivered welcoming remarks to the guests. Other than expressing gratitude to the attendees for their presence, he took the opportunity to inform the guests of the current developments in Malaysia.
The guests were served with traditional Raya cuisine such as lemang, rending daging, nasi impit, lodeh, kuah kacang, nasi tomato, ayam masak merah, kari daging, jelatah, as well as mihun goreng and a variety of desserts. As usual, the event achieved its objective of strengthening camaraderie among Malaysians as they took the opportunity to mingle and share information in a warm and friendly ambience.
