The Day commenced with the Parade of Nations participated by 16 countries.The Malaysian delegation comprising Embassy staff and their families stood out in the Parade with their baju melayu, baju kurung, and baju kebaya in vibrant colours.
The Embassy had a stall selling Malaysian favourites – roti canai, nasi lemak, teh tarik, popiah goreng, curry puffs and cekodok pisang. All the food was sold out and there were people coming back for more. Visitors to the stall were attracted by the colourful batik decorations, beautiful posters of Malaysian landscapes and videos on tourist attractions. Tourism brochures were distributed to the visitors who were also treated to demonstrations on how to make the roti-canai and the various ways to use the kain batik. The designs and creative mix of colours clearly fascinated those who bought the kain batik and many pieces were sold.
The highlight of the day was the Malaysian dance and silat performance. The Embassy staff and children performed the joget and other dances to the tune of Malaysia Truly Asia, against a colourful background of bunga manggar, kain sampin, and other Malaysian cultural paraphernalia.
The event was well attended by the local and international community and provided a good opportunity for the Embassy to promote Malaysian food, culture and its tourist attractions.
