CONSULTATION ON AIR SERVICES AGREEMENT (ASA)

The aeronautical authorities of Malaysia and Algeria met on 12 and 13 August 2009 in Algiers, Algeria to discuss the establishment of air services arrangements between both countries. The Malaysian delegation was headed by Y.Bhg. Dato' Haji Zakaria Haji Bahari, Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport and joined by H.E. Dr. Hasrul Sani Mujtabar, Ambassador of Malaysia to Algeria and officers from the Ministry of Transport and Attorney General Chambers.  The Algerian delegation was headed by Mr. M'hamed Mhareb, Secretary General of Ministry of Transport.

Among the outcome of the two days consultations, Malaysia and Algeria had agreed to established an Air Services Agreement (ASA) between both countries which to be signed as soon as possible pending internal formalities by both countries.

Both countries also has agreed to formalise a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will enable the designated airlines of both countries to operate 3rd and 4th freedom traffic rights for passenger, cargo and mail on separate or combination services with no limitation on capacity and aircraft type with the following frequencies:

 

       (i)    14 x weekly, effective on the date of entry into force of the MoU;

       (ii)    21 weekly, effective 2 years after the date of entry into force of the MoU; and

       (iii)    28 x weekly, effective 5 years after the date of entry into force of the MoU.

 

The establishment of the Air Services Agreement would certainly bring Malaysia-Algeria relations to greater heights.
