Malaysia in one of the 42 countries participating at the 6th International Competition of Koran Recitation held in Algiers from 10 September, 2009. Ms. Mazian bt. Abu Bakar hails from Melaka but studies in Kuala Lumpur. At the age of 15, she is the youngest international participant. She was also interviewed in Arabic by the Algiers TV station.
The Minister of Religous Affairs and Waqt, H.E. Bouabdellah Ghlamallah, officiated the opening ceremony at Darul El-Imam Complex. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Hasrul Sani Mujtabar was among the invited guests.
President of Algeria, H.E. Abdelaziz Bouteflika, is expected to give away the prizes to the winners on 17 September, 2009. We wish Ms. Mazian all the best!
