H.E. Haznah Md Hashim, Ambassador-designate of Malaysia to Spain, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Luis Fonseca Sánchez, Director-General for North America, Eastern Europe, Asia and Pacific at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain on 10 December 2025.
Spain reaffirmed its strategic pivot towards the Asia Pacific under its newly approved Asia Pacific Strategy, which aligns closely with the EU’s Indo-Pacific vision and highlights ASEAN as a key regional partner. Ambassador Haznah welcomed this direction and conveyed Malaysia’s readiness to support deeper Spanish engagement in Southeast Asia.
The meeting also covered potential high-level visits, upcoming bilateral consultations, and opportunities to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, semiconductors, digital security, high technology, and defence. Ambassador Haznah highlighted Malaysia’s strong semiconductor ecosystem and encouraged closer collaboration under Spain’s PERTE Chip initiative.
Both sides noted their shared positions on many international issues including the situation in Palestine and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and unlocking the full potential of Malaysia–Spain relations.
