Malaysia has officially assumed the Chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM) from Indonesia for the period January to June 2026.
The handover ceremony of the ACM Chairmanship from H.E. Dr. Muhammad Najib, Ambassador of Indonesia to H.E. Haznah Md Hashim, and Ambassador-designate of Malaysia took place at the Residence of the Ambassador of Indonesia on 13 January 2026. During the meeting, ACM Head of Missions exchanged views on the ACM work programme and discussed activities and initiatives to be undertaken during Malaysia’s Chairmanship. As Chair, Malaysia is committed to providing constructive leadership and working closely with fellow ASEAN Missions to further strengthen ASEAN’s engagement with Spain, promote dialogue, and advance mutually beneficial cooperation across political, economic, and socio-cultural domains. Malaysia looks forward to working closely with all ASEAN partners and Spanish counterparts to ensure a productive and meaningful ACM Chairmanship over the next six months.
