The 54th National Day of Malaysia reception was held on 21 September 2011, Grand Ballroom, Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta. It was also jointly celebrated with the 78th Malaysian National Armed Forces Day. The reception was hosted by H.E. Dato’ Syed Munshe Afdzaruddin Syed Hassan, Ambassador of Malaysia to Indonesia, H.E. Dato’ Hsu King Bee, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to ASEAN and Brid. Gen. Dato’ Hj. Mohd Anuar Rijaluddin, Defence Attaché. The Guest of Honour was Taufik Kemas, Head of the Majlis Permusyawaratan Rakyat.
The reception was attended by nearly 850 people. The crowd was made out from the diplomatic corps, members from the Majlis Permusyawaratan Rakyat (MPR) , Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat, Malaysian and Indonesian businessmen, friends of Malaysia, high profile personalities, students, as well as other invited guests.
With regard to the spread that was tabled, among the dishes that was put on show incuded roti canai, Hainan chicken rice, teh tarik, satay, fried kuewtiow and other delicacies. The satay station, teh tarik, tempura and lamb station had enticed majority of the crowd.
In addition to the above, the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture (MICC) had provided a performance troop for the purpose of the reception. The troop consisted of dancers and musicians who performed after the cake cutting ceremony. Among the performance that was lined up during the night included Joget Satu Malaysia, Zapin, Chinese and Indian traditional dances.
To further enhance the purpose of the reception, a video used to promote Malaysia by Tourism Malaysia was projected before the reception begun. In addition, Tourism Malaysia, Education Promotion, Proton Indonesia and Malaysia Properties Incorporated had set up promotion booths. Proton had showcased their two cars i.e. Gen2 and Exora, while the others promoted their respective products.
