MALAYSIAN CONTINGENT ARRIVED IN PUNE, MAHARASTRA FOR 3^rd COMMONWEALTH YOUTH GAMES

A contingent of 42 athletes and 17 officers arrived in Pune via Mumbai on 8th October 2008 to take part in the 3^rd Commonwealth Youth Games  which will start from 12th to 18th October in Pune, Maharashtra.

The Malaysian team will participate in athletics, badminton, boxing, swimming, weightlifting, shooting, and table tennis. All Malaysian athletes are under 18 years of age.  

The Commonwealth Youth Games were first inaugurated held in Edinburgh, Scotland from 10th to 14th August 2000, while the 2nd Commonwealth Youth Games were held in Bendigo, Australia from 30th November to 3rd December 2004.

The 3^rd Commonwealth Youth Games will field over 1,300 athletes and 350 officials from 71 countries in 9 disciplines - athletics, badminton, boxing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, weightlifting and wrestling. This Youth Games are held 2 years before the Commonwealth Games that India will be hosting in 2010 in New Dehli.

The Malaysian High Commissioner for India, H.E. Dato’ Tan Seng Sung is also scheduled to attend the Games and meet the Malaysian contingent on 16th October 2008.
