The First International Malaysia-Ireland Symposium on Science, Engineering and Business was held at Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) on 9-10 June 2011. The event brought together Irish and Malaysian post-graduate researchers and was jointly organised by University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and AIT.
An international panel of speakers include experts on biomedical science, computer networking, materials engineering, microbiology, social science, as well as on commercialising research and technology transfer in higher education institutions.
The Symposium was attended by more than 50 researchers from Malaysia, Ireland, China and the UK. Delegates also include the Vice Chancellor of UniMAP, Y.Bhg. Brig. Jen. Prof. Dato' Dr. Kamarudin Hussin as well as Y.Brs. Dr. Rosman Abdullah, the Malaysian Student Director for UK/Ireland, Ms. Zurina Ahmad Tejuddin, Charge d’Affaires a.i., the Embassy of Malaysia Dublin and Mr. Terry McPartland, Enterprise Ireland.
On the sidelines of the Symposium, Y.Bhg. Brig. Jen. Prof. Dato' Dr. Kamarudin Hussin was conferred the fellowship award from the AIT. The prestigious award was conferred to Vice Chancellor for his efforts in education, researches, voluntary works and international relations especially towards UniMAP and AIT. The award was presented to Vice Chancellor by the President of AIT, Prof. Ciaran O Cathain in a special ceremony.
