The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ireland, Mr. Simon Coveney launched the country’s National Plan on Business and Human Rights 2017-2020 on 15 November 2017. The National Plan is aimed at implementing the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights which was endorsed by the UN Human Rights Council in 2011. The UN and EU have called on all States to develop a national plan to implement the Principles.
In essense, the National Plan will promote responsible business practices inside and outside Ireland by all Irish enterprises in line with Ireland’s commitment to promote and protect human rights. It also highlighted in a clear and tangible way the Irish Government’s commitment to promoting these practices at home and overseas.
