Ambassador Raja Dato` Nazrin Aznam graciously hosted the Embassy`s National Day Reception on 14 September 2009 at City Hall, Dublin. An estimated 200 guests attended the first session of event including senior officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ambassadors and Embassy`s local contacts. Malaysians and Muslim community leaders attended the second half of the event which was held just before Iftar. Muslim guests broke fast before performing Maghrib prayers led by Imam Yahya Al-Hussain of Dublin Mosque.
In his speech to the Malaysian guests, Ambassador Raja Dato` Nazrin called for greater unity among Malaysians in Ireland and explained the 1Malaysia concept. He also advised Malaysian to contribute to the community and respect local laws as well as customs. The Ambassador also called on the Malaysian community to contribute ideas to strengthen and diversify Malaysian-Ireland bilateral relations. To commemorate the event, the Ambassador led Malaysians in singing 'Negaraku', 'Tanggal 31 Ogos' and other patriotic songs. He paid tribute and reminded all assembled to remember the sacrifice of Malaysian, Commonwealth and Irish servicemen and some whom had sacrified their lives in the fight for our independence.
