Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) undertook a one-day working visit to Dublin on Friday, 22 January 2016. The objective of the meeting was to meet with his Irish counterart, Mr Martin Fraser and meet with the Government-sponsored students in Dublin. Tan Sri KSN was received by Ambassador Dato' Syed Sultan Idris and officials from the Embassy. Later, Tan Sri KSN hosted a Hi-Tea Session with the students in Rumah Malaysia.
Education Relations with Ireland
There are more than 1500 Malaysians students doing their undergraduate and post-graduate studies in Ireland. Majority of the students are government-sponsored studying in various field from medicine to accounting and finance, computer science and engineering. The students are mostly situated in Dublin, as well as in other major cities in Ireland including Cork and Galway.
Apart from Wisma Putra officials, the Embassy in Dublin also includes officials from the agencies of Education Malaysia (EM) and MARA. The officials from the agencies are mainly responsible for education matters focusing on Malaysia's relations in the education sector with Ireland as well as taking care of the welfare of the Malaysian students.
