VISIT BY THE CHIEF MINISTER OF TERENGGANU TO DUBLIN, IRELAND
The Chief Minister of Terengganu, YAB Dato’ Ismail Said held a working visit to Dublin, Ireland on 20-22 March 2011. He was accompanied by officials from Terengganu State Government and Terengganu Foundation.
The main objective of the visit was to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the provision of medical education by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and University College Dublin (UCD) and by the two colleges in Terengganu. The MoU was signed by YB Haji Ahmad Razif bin Abd. Rahman, Chairman of Terengganu State Committee for Education, Higher Learning, Science & Technology and Human Resource, Haji Aziz bin Mamat, Director of Terengganu Foundation, Dr. Hugh Brady, President of UCD, and Professor Cathal Kelly, Registrar and CEO of RCSI, in the presence of Ms. Zurina Ahmad Tejuddin, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Embassy of Malaysia Dublin and YB Dr. Haji A Rahman bin Mokhtar, of the Terengganu State Executive Council.
The state of Terengganu is planning to open a RSCI branch in Terengganu and look forward to collaborate with both universities, RCSI and UCD. The state is also interested in research and development in engineering field with UCD and wishes to strengthen their relationship.
During the visit, the delegation also met with the Irish Minister for Education and Skills, Mr. Ruairi Quinn TD to discuss various issues of mutual interest including the new cooperation in medical education between the state of Terengganu and RCSI/UCD. During the visit, YAB Dato’ Ismail Said and delegation also had an opportunity to meet with over 70 students from Terengganu at Malaysia Hall Dublin.
