On 23 July 2014, The President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E Uhuru Kenyatta officiated a flag-off event of three trucks carrying foodstuffs donated by Muslim Ambassadors accredited to Kenya. The food will be distributed among 700 families in Moyale, Wajir and Mandera counties.
In his speech, H.E President Kenyatta mentioned that Kenya has constantly strengthened its cooperation with other nations in curbing extremism and the event symbolizes the Government's efforts in promoting peace.
H.E President Kenyatta expressed his gratitude to the kind gesture of shown by the ambassadors to the less fortunate during the holy month of Ramadhan. He also conveyed his condolences to the people and the Government of Malaysia on the tragic incident of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 through H.E Ismail Salam, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Kenya.
High Commission of Malaysia has donated 25 boxes of foodstuff comprises of maize flour, corn oil, sugar and rice for the event. Among the envoys who took part in the event were from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Morocco
Nairobi, 23 July 2014 (PSCU) – Kenya will scale up its cooperation with other nations in curbing the wave of extremism sweeping across the globe, President Uhuru Kenyatta has said.
Speaking today at State House, Nairobi, when he flagged-off three trucks carrying foodstuffs donated by Muslim Ambassadors accredited to Kenya, President Kenyatta said the Government has embarked on strengthening ties with friendly nations to boost peace. The Iftar food consignment will be distributed to 7000 families in Moyale, Wajir and Mandera counties.
“We are keenly looking forward to working with you to bring harmonious co-existence and peace amongst our people,” President Kenyatta said.
Deputy President William Ruto, Cabinet Secretaries Ann Waiguru and Ambassador Amina Mohammed witnessed the flagging-off of the trucks carrying foodstuffs.
President Kenyatta expressed his gratitude for the kind gesture shown by the ambassadors to the less fortunate in the society during the Holy month of Ramadan.
He also took the opportunity to send a message of condolence to the Government and people of Malaysian following the tragic plane accident of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 which occurred last week in Ukraine, killing all 298 people onboard.
The President conveyed the condolence message through the Malaysian High Commissioner to Kenya ambassador Ismail Salam.
The Muslim envoys – who made the food donation – were Ghorm Said Malhan (Sauid Arabia), Malek Hossein Givzad (Iran), Yaqoub Al Sanad (Kuwait), Abdelmoneim Mohammed Mabrouk of the League of Arab States, Ibrahim Bin Mohamed Abdulrahman Al-Abdullah (Qatar), Abdul Razak Mohammed Hadi Al-Awadi (United Arab Emirates), Abdelilah Benryane (Morocco), Saad Maandi (Algeria) and Ismail Salam (Malaysia).
