His Excellency Selwyn Das, the High Commissioner of Malaysia to the Republic of Kenya and his wife, Madam Renuka Das hosted a reception to celebrate the 51st National Day of Malaysia on 31 August 2008 at a hotel in Nairobi. More than 300 guests including Ambassadors and High Commissioners, Members of Parliament, senior members of the Kenyan Government, members of the diplomatic corps, business community, friends of Malaysia and the Malaysian community in Kenya attended the reception. The highlight of the reception was none other than the presence of Hon. Raila Odinga, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya as the guest-of-honour.
Remaining faithful to the Malaysian customs, Malaysian delicacies such as nasi lemak, beef rendang, fried noodles and chicken curry were served. All of the guests were also presented with "bunga telur".
