PRESENTATION OF LETTER OF APPOINMENT OF H.E. ISMAIL SALAM AS PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MALAYSIA TO UN-HABITAT, 12 JULY 2012
His Excellency Ismail Salam, Malaysia’s Designate to the Republic of Kenya, who was appointed as the Permanent Representative (PR) of Malaysia to United Nation Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) on June 2012, presented his credentials to His Excellency Dr. Joan Clos, Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, on 12 July 2012, at its Headquarters in Nairobi Kenya. Joining him at the ceremony was the First Secretary of the High Commission of Malaysia in Nairobi, Kenya.
During the ceremony, the Executive Director cordially welcomed the Malaysian PR and informed the latter that UN-HABITAT would like to enhance its cooperation with Malaysia especially through sharing of experience and expertise. He believed that Malaysia could contribute a lot in the area of urban development and human settlements to other developing countries. The Executive Director also informed the PR during the discussion following the ceremony that Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has been named as the recipient of 2012 Rafik Hariri UN-Habitat Memorial Award, recognising his leadership, statesmanship and good governance.
H.E. Ismail Salam is Malaysia’s High Commissioner Designate to the Republic of Kenya. He has served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1992. Prior to his appointment as the High Commissioner to Republic of Kenya, H.E. Ismail served as the Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Vienna, Austria and the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations in Vienna from 2009 to 20012, Consul of Malaysia in Pontianak, Indonesia from 2000-2004 and the Second Secretary of Malaysian Embassy in Warsaw, Poland from 1995-1999.
