In marking the momentous occasion of the 56th Anniversary of National Day on 31st August 2013, a “Hari Merdeka” gathering among Malaysians residing in Sri Lanka was organised by the High Commission at Rumah Malaysia in which a solemn Flag Hoisting ceremony and singing of the National Anthem ‘Negaraku’ was held.
2. During the ceremony, H.E. Azmi Zainuddin, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Sri Lanka remarked that he was very pleased to observe that fellow Malaysians residing in Sri Lanka have shown great pride in celebrating the National Day in the spirit of 1Malaysia despite being abroad.
3. He encouraged Malaysians to continue to work diligently to upheld and promote the good image of the country in their respective roles and capacities. He assured that the High Commission is committed as ever to serve the interests of Malaysians in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
4. Meanwhile, H.E. Azmi was pleased to note that Malaysia and Sri Lanka continue to enjoy warm and cordial bilateral relations. Sri Lanka is also one of Malaysia’s major trading partners in the region as total trade between the two countries reached new milestones over the last couple of years. He was also proud that Malaysia is one of the leading investors in Sri Lanka. He expressed his confidence that there are vast potential for cooperation between Malaysia and Sri Lanka in a multitude of areas for mutual benefit of the peoples of the two countries.
5. Members of the press and print media, friends of Malaysia and staff members of the High Commission attended the above event. The guests were also treated to a “Raya Buffet” prepared by the members of PERWAKILAN Colombo.
