TRINCOMALEE, August 13, 2008 - His Excellency Rosli Ismail, High Commissioner for Malaysia to Sri Lanka, accompanied by Madam Mariana Alias and two other officials from the High Commission undertook a working visit to Kinniya, Trincomalee from 13 to 14 August 2008 and visited the Malaysian Tsunami Housing Project and also Sumayyah Arabic Ladies College’s hostel funded by the Government of Malaysia.
The fifty houses for the Tsunami victims as well as the Sumayyah Arabic Ladies College’s hostel was fully funded by the Government of Malaysia in Kinniya, Trincomalee as part of Malaysia’s assistance and contribution to the Sri Lankan people affected by the Tsunami which hit Sri Lanka in December 2005. The two projects cost nearly RM 1.5 million and were constructed by Serendib Foundation, a local NGO founded in Trincomalee. The projects were completely built during the first quarter of the year 2007. The two projects were officially launched by Her Excellency Nazirah Hussain, former High Commissioner of Malaysia on 15th April 2008.
During the working visit His Excellency Rosli Ismail and delegation took the occasion to meet the people residing in the Malaysian housing units and the Muslims community in Kinniya and distributed food items, used clothes and also cash donated by Malaysian companies and individuals. The delegation also visited Trincomalee’s new industrial area for potential Malaysian investments in the near future after the area was liberated from the control of the Liberation of Tamil Tigers Eelam (LTTE) by the
