22nd ASEAN BAZAAR, MEXICO CITY

 

 

On 10 December 2016, the 22nd ASEAN Bazaar was organized by the five Mexico City-based ASEAN embassies, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, at Lincoln Park-a public park in Mexico City. The ASEAN Bazaar is an annual event aimed at promoting and showcasing the cultural tradition and gastronomy of ASEAN as well as raising funds for the needy in Mexico.

 

The event was officiated by H.E. Ambassador Linh Lan Le of Vietnam, in her capacity as Chairperson of ASEAN Committee in Mexico City (ACMC) and Mr. Cuauhtemoc Cardenas Solorzano, Coordinator of International Issues of Mexico City, representing the Mayor of Mexico City.  Present were Mdm. Bertha Xochitl Galvez Ruiz, Chief Delegate of Miguel Hidalgo Delegation; H.E. Ambassador Sergio Ley, President of COMCE Mexico City; and Mr. Jorge Barbosa, First Secretary of PROMEXICO.  Besides receiving around 2,000 visitors, it was also attended by Ambassadors from Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Belize, Jamaica, Japan, Libya, Russia, Palestine, Paraguay and Director General of Asia Pacific and Director General of Latin America, Ministry of External Relations Mexico as well as media representatives.

 

During this event, Malaysia showcased its ethnic custom via a fashion show and also a traditional dance Joget Pahang, performed by the staff of the Embassy along with their children. PERWAKILAN-ladies group of the Embassy participated in selling Malaysian food.  Malaysia was also in-charge of organizing and soliciting donation fund via raffle draw. In all, the ASEAN Bazaar was a success in all aspects. ASEAN and Malaysia were made visible among the Mexicans and expatriates alike during the Bazaar.
