57TH NATIONAL DAY RECEPTION, 30 OCTOBER 2014
GUADALAJARA, JALISCO
The Ambassador of Malaysia in Mexico H.E. Dato` Jamaiyah M. Yusof hosted a reception to celebrate the 57th National Day at the Presidente Intercontinental Hotel in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco on 30 October 2014. It was attended by approximately 190 guests from Jalisco’s Governor’s office, from the Mayor of Guadalajara’s office, relevant Ministries, Ministry of Economic Development, Honorary Consuls from different countries with representation in Guadalajara, trade associations, banking institutions, universities and business leaders.
2. The Malaysian Honorary Consul in Guadalajara participated in the event. In his welcoming speech, Mr. Ceballos thanked H.E. Dato’ Jamaiyah M. Yusof, Ambassador of Malaysia to Mexico, for having this event in Guadalajara, Jalisco, the second most important state in Mexico. Mr. Ceballos said that this would be an excellent opportunity to show Mexicans in Jalisco, Malaysia’s extraordinary progress in several fields. It would also make them look towards Malaysia as an excellent trade partner in Asia and an interesting tourist destination.
3. The representative from the Governor of Jalisco’s office Mr. José Palacios Jiménez, Secretary of Economic Development, informed that Jalisco is the state with lowest unemployment and one of the first states receiving foreign direct investment. He also advised that Jalisco is seeking trade partners in Asia and said he was impressed with Malaysia’s economic, social and trade development. He assured that having this event in Guadalajara will surely entice Jalisco businessmen to visit this beautiful and economically vibrant country to seek partnerships. He sent his regards to the King of Malaysia and the Prime Minister for the auspicious 57th National Day.
4. For her part, H.E. Dato’ Jamaiyah M. Yusof offered her condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends affected by the tragedies of flights MH370 and MH17. The Ambassador also shared how Malaysia has evolved from being a country with an agriculture based economy to an industrialized nation with moderately high income and which has achieved important economic and social progress in the last decades.
5. The speech also touched on the important 40th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Malaysia and Mexico and the strong bilateral relationship which saw the total bilateral trade between the two countries in 2013 amount to USD1.62 billion. Likewise, she informed the audience that Volkswagen Mexico has successfully sent their experts to Malaysia to assist in setting up the Malaysian Volkswagen plant. Dato’ Jamaiyah invited the Government of Jalisco and the private sector to look towards Malaysia as their preferred partner in Asia.
6. The guests enjoyed international finger food served by the hotel. The room was decorated with posters of Malaysian colorful sights and guests enjoyed Malaysian music during their stay. There were also three TV screens showing videos of tourist attractions inviting guests to visit Malaysia.
