A WARM AND ENGAGING EVENING OF FRIENDSHIP AND DIPLOMACY!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ambassador Jamal Sharifuddin Johan recently hosted a dinner at his residence for Senator Yeidckol Polevnsky Gurwitz, several honourable Mexican senators, the Director General for Asia-Pacific from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), and fellow ASEAN Heads of Mission in Mexico City.
Over delicious Malaysian cuisine and vibrant conversation, the guests exchanged views on some of today’s most pressing regional and global issues. Topics included tariffs, trade dynamics, and strategies for inclusive and sustainable economic development — all shared in the spirit of openness and mutual respect. One of the key points discussed was Mexico’s interest in acceding to the ASEAN Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC), a welcomed move that signals Mexico’s growing engagement with Southeast Asia.
The ASEAN Ambassadors expressed strong support and enthusiasm for this development, noting its potential to bring both regions closer in terms of political cooperation, economic integration, and cultural exchange.
The evening was not only a platform for dialogue but also a celebration of growing ties and shared aspirations between Mexico and ASEAN. Heartfelt thanks to all who attended and contributed to such a meaningful gathering.
