ANNUAL DIPLOMATIC CORPS VISIT HOSTED BY
FOREIGN MINISTER OF MEXICO TO COAHUILA

From 21 to 23 October, H.E. Mohammad Azhar Mazlan and Madame Amelia Azhar together with 80 other Ambassadors and their spouses as well as Heads of International Agencies based in Mexico City participated in the Annual Visit Program hosted by H.E. Claudia Ruiz Massieu Salinas, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mexico. This year the visit was to the State of Coahuila. The Ministry of External Relations (SRE) Mexico arranged an extensive 3-day program to showcase the state of Coahuila. Located to the northeastern Mexico bordering with Texas, to the east with the State of Nuevo Leon and the west the State of Chihuahua, Coahuila is the 3rd largest state in term of size, having automotive, agro and mining industry as its economic mainstay. About 95 percent of Mexico`s coal reserves are in Coahuila as well as producing 40 percent of Mexico`s milk consumption.
On hand to receive the guests arriving on a special chartered flight at the airport in Saltillo were H.E. Lic. Ruben I. Moreira Valdez, Governor of Coahuila and his wife as well as state officials. The first agenda was a visit to Fiat Chrysler Assembly Plant which is the largest plant outside of the US, followed by official reception and luncheon hosted by the Governor of Coahuila and his wife at the Muzeum of the Birds in the historical centre of Saltillo. During the luncheon, state officials briefed the guests about the state and social economic development of Coahuila. Thereafter, guests were taken to the Muzeum of Desert where an array of fossiled dinosaurs was on display. The Governor and his wife were gracious to host a dinner at the Hotel Quinta Real Saltillo where the guests were billeted at.
On Saturday, a program at the community crisis centre for abused women and children was arranged with a briefing and guided tour. This was followed by a visit to Casa Madero, the oldest vineyard in Latin America and the sixth global wine exporter where H.E. Massieu hosted a luncheon in honour of the diplomatic corps. In the evening, the Governor and Minister of Foreign Affairs were present with the guests for a concert by a famous Mexican tenor - Fernando of the Mora as part of the International Festival of the Arts 2016. Apart from promoting the state of Coahuila and Mexican gastronomy, the visit was a success in building the esprit de corps between the host government and the diplomatic corps based in Mexico City.
