On 4 March 2022, the TYT Ambassador Muzafar Shah Mustafa as the Chair of the ASEAN Community in Mexico City (ACMC) in the first half of 2022 hosted a business luncheon in honor of H.E. Dra Luz Maria de la Mora Sanchez, Undersecretary of Foreign Trade, Secretariat of Economy of Mexico. This is part of the ASEAN activities under the chairmanship of Malaysia. H.E. Ambassador Sergio Ley Lopez, President of the Asia-Pacific Section of the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade (COMCE) and ASEAN Ambassadors in Mexico City also attended the luncheon.
While there were no specific issues to be brought up between ASEAN countries and Mexico, it provided the opportunities for interaction and engagement between the guest of honor and others present not only on issues related to trade with Mexico but also on the current global issues affecting trade such as covid-19 situation, conflict between Ukraine and Russia, CPTPP, APEC Summit in Thailand, G20 Summit in Indonesia as well as on global energy crisis.
The engagement between the ASEAN embassies and the Secretariat of Economy of Mexico is paramount in ensuring continuous assistance from the Secretariat in exploring and promoting business opportunities between ASEAN and Mexico. As the largest trading partner from the ASEAN countries, Malaysia`s initiative in organizing the meeting would strengthen our bilateral relations between the two countries.
