ASEAN COMMITTEE IN MEXICO CITY (ACMC) WORKING VISIT TO THE CITY OF PUEBLA, MEXICO

On 9^th November 2017, under Malaysia’s Chairmanship, the ASEAN Committee in Mexico City (ACMC) undertook a Working Visit to the City of Puebla, Mexico. The ACMC delegation comprised four (4) Ambassadors (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines) and 1 Charge d’Affaires a.i. (Vietnam) together with their respective officials. The program outline was a courtesy call on the Honourable Mr. Luis Banck Serrato, Mayor of Puebla City; Mr. Victor Mata Temoltzin, Secretary of Economic Development of Puebla City; Mr. Alejandro Cañedo Priesca, Secretary of Tourism of Puebla City, meeting with Business Chambers of the State of Puebla; and Conference with the political science students at  Americas Puebla University.

The objectives of the visit were, among others, as follows:

i.      To leverage on ASEAN economies with that of Puebla State;

ii.    To make ASEAN known in Puebla;

iii.   To ascertain the business opportunities of ASEAN in Puebla State as well as the incentives that the government and the city give to foreign companies for investment;

iv.   To strengthen and diversify the relations with the State of Puebla, and Puebla City;

v.    To promote ASEAN trade and investments as well as services sector within the State of Puebla in the automotive and textile industry;

vi.   To seek potential collaboration in the State of Puebla and educational entities and

vii.  To know the background of Puebla and its development as a World Heritage City.

The visit availed possible collaboration for investment and strategic partnerships  between  ASEAN with the City of Puebla in sectors such as automotive, textile and education. In all, apart from meeting its objectives, the visit was successful in opening doors for trade and investment between individual ASEAN nations with the State of Puebla.
