ASEAN Public Lecture at UNAM FES-Acatlán: A Resounding Success

On 16 May 2025, the Faculty of Higher Studies Acatlán (FES-Acatlán), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), hosted a highly successful ASEAN Public Lecture, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of around 300 attendees, far exceeding initial expectations!
This special event brought together all five Heads of Mission from the ASEAN Committee in Mexico City (ACMC), including the Ambassadors of Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Each offered insights into their respective countries’ roles within ASEAN and the region’s growing significance globally.
The session was designed to foster awareness and a deeper understanding of ASEAN among Mexican students and academic circles. Through a series of engaging presentations, the Ambassadors touched on a wide range of topics, from regional cooperation, economic development, and diplomacy to education, cultural exchange, and ASEAN-Mexico relations.
The audience, comprised mostly of students, professors, and members of the international relations community, actively participated in the Q&A session, raising thoughtful and well-informed questions that sparked rich discussion. The energy and curiosity in the room highlighted a growing interest in Southeast Asia and the importance of strengthening academic and people-to-people ties between ASEAN and Mexico.
The ASEAN Public Lecture was not just an academic gathering but a celebration of international friendship, cultural dialogue, and shared aspirations. We thank **UNAM FES-Acatlán** for their outstanding collaboration and hospitality in hosting this meaningful initiative.
