BADMINTON GRAND PRIX TOURNAMENT MEXICO CITY 2015
The Mexico City Grand Prix of Badminton was held at the Club Deportivo Chapultepec from 15 to 20 December 2015. This was the last stage of the 2015 grand prix series, with 195 entries that allowed the participation of 205 players. The players were aiming for a place at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games 2016. The Olympic qualification allows 54 entries, with the best 38 in Women’s Singles, Men’s Singles and 16 Mixed Doubles.
Malaysia had the total participation of 12 players. The No. 1-ranked Malaysian Mixed Double team, Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying, won the mixed double Championship, when they defeated South Korea’s world No. 14, Choi Sol-gyu - Eom Hye-won, in straight sets (21-14, 21-12).
The staff of the Embassy were present at the tournament to lend their moral support to the Malaysian team equipped with the `Jalur Gemilang` and battle cry of `Malaysia Boleh!`. Kudos to the Malaysian Mixed-Double!
