COURTESY CALL ON HIS EXCELLENCY PEDRO BROLO VILA, MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF GUATEMALA 3 AUGUST 2021

On 3 August 2021, before the presentation of Letters of Credence ceremony, TYT Ambassador Muzafar Shah Mustafa had a courtesy call with the Foreign Minister of Guatemala, His Excellency Pedro Brolo Vila. The Foreign Minister was accompanied by Vice Minister Carlos Ramiro Martinez, Director General of Foreign Bilateral Relations Ambassador Lynsay Hernandez de Munoz and the Deputy Director of Protocol Wendel Arriaza Ayala. Meanwhile, TYT Ambassador was accompanied by Encik Khaifil Elmi Jamil, Counsellor (Trade) from MATRADE Office in Mexico City and Encik Norafizan Mustaffa, First Secretary of MW Mexico.

During the Courtesy Call, TYT Ambassador and the Foreign Minister discussed some bilateral issues between the two countries including future economic cooperation particularly on the agricultural sector including future cooperation and research collaboration on the palm oil industry. During the discussion, TYT Ambassador underscored the importance for Guatemala to actively participate in the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC), the initiative by Malaysia and Indonesia to build mutual cooperation among palm oil producing nations.

Both parties also discussed current issues such as Covid-19 situation in Malaysia and Guatemala as well as Malaysia’s candidature to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the term 2022-2024.

His Excellency Pedro Brolo Vila and TYT Ambassador also had the opportunity to exchange mementos and expressed hoped that the bilateral relations between Malaysia and Guatemala could be strengthened further for the mutual benefits of both countries.
