On 11th July 2017, Malaysia’s largest electricity utility company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) met H.E. Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, Ambassador of Malaysia to Mexico at the Chancery. The TNB delegation was led by Y.Bhg. Datuk Seri Ir. Azman Mohd, CEO of TNB accompanied by Mr. Khairunnizam Naharudin, Head of Global & Property Ventures and Ir. Nik Hishamuddin Mohamed, Head of CEO’s Office. Also present during the meeting was Mr. Mohd. Hafiz Abdul Jalil, Trade Commissioner, MATRADE Mexico City.
The delegation was in Mexico City for a familiarisation visit which included a series of official meetings with Mexico’s Secretary of Energy, Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission and Investment Banks. TNB was also looking at investment opportunities to purchase existing power plants in Mexico and explore potential collaboration in energy sector with Mexican companies. This was TNB’s first of many visits to Mexico as there were many business opportunities offered by Mexico, according to the CEO. The Ambassador welcomed TNB`s intention and that the Embassy would facilitate TNB making inroads into Mexico.
